Frank Oldham Jr.

On Jan. 23, Frank Oldham Jr. was named executive director of the National Association of People with AIDS. "I believe it's going to be the highlight of my career. NAPWA is the heart and soul of this movement," said Oldham, who has identified his first task as lobbying for adequate funding for the Ryan White CARE Act. "We have waiting lists for people who need medications for AIDS in some states. This is unacceptable. There can't be a compromise." In 1998, Oldham joined the Chicago Department of Public Health as chief of its HIV/AIDS and STD programs. He then became executive director of Horizons Community Services, forerunner of the Center on Halsted. After serving as coordinator of AIDS policy for New York City, he became executive director of the Harlem Directors Group, an agency targeting AIDS in New York's African-American community.
