Gran Fury Exhibition

A new exhibition featuring the work of the AIDS activist art collective Gran Fury is on display at the 80WSE Gallery in New York City until March 17. Gran Fury, named after the model of Plymouth automobile once used by the New York City Police Department, grew out of ACT UP (the AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power). Gran Fury created public art works in the late ’80s and early ’90s to raise awareness of AIDS and put pressure on politicians. The exhibition features 15 pieces including giveaway reproductions. View photos from the opening night reception below.

Noted cultural theorist Andrew Ross will interview members of Gran Fury at a symposium held 6 P.M. Tuesday, February 28, at the NYU/Steinhardt Art School’s Einstein Auditorium, 34 Stuyvesant St., in the East Village.
