2012 amfAR New York Gala
Are red ribbons still in vogue? They were at a fund-raising celebration to kick-off New York Fashion Week hosted by amfAR, The Foundation for AIDS Research, on February 8 at Cipriani Wall Street. A-listers were on hand to help the organization honor fashion designer Roberto Cavalli, Caroline Scheufele, copresident of luxury jewelry brand Chopard; and R. Martin Chavez, PhD, amfAR board member and Goldman Sachs managing director, who received the award on behalf of Goldman Sachs Gives. All three honorees received amfAR’s Award of Courage for their vital and distinctive contributions to the global struggle against HIV/AIDS.
The ultimate fashionista Sarah Jessica Parker hosted the star-studded gala that featured a dinner, live auction and performances by rapper Theophilus London and soul songstress Janelle Monáe.
Event chairs for the evening were Woody Allen and Soon-Yi Previn; editor-in-chief of Harper’s Bazaar Glenda Bailey; chairman of the amfAR board Kenneth Cole; Estée Lauder president John Demsey; Nina Garcia and Heidi Klum of Project Runway fame; chairman of the Elton John AIDS Foundation, David Furnish; amfAR founding chairman Mathilde Krim, PhD; editor-in-chief of Elle, Roberta Myers; Vincent Roberti; Bill Roedy; Carine Roitfeld; and actor Stanley Tucci.
Other guests included a who’s who of Hollywood such as Jennifer Hudson, Julianne Moore, Elizabeth Hurley, Leighton Meester, Rose Byrne, Padma Lakshmi, Camila Alves, Alexa Chung, Linda Evangelista, Debbie Harry, Cheyenne Jackson, Karolina Kurkova, Lindsay Lohan, Kellan Lutz, Cindy Crawford and Molly Sims.
The event raised $1.4 million for amfAR.
