Stephen R. Hourahan
Stephen R. Hourahan, a past board member and chair, has been named the executive director of the AIDS Project Rhode Island, Providence, RI.
"I really feel passionately about this issue," Hourahan said. "It’s something I care about a great deal. I know first hand what HIV is all about."
Hourahan has lived with the virus for the last 23 years.
"I’ve taken just about every drug imaginable, some experimental stuff, to make sure I can maintain my health," he noted.
Hourahan, 51, served as the first director of development at the AIDS Action Council in Washington in 1989. At the time, there was no action to the epidemic at the government level. AAC was the first national AIDS organization.
